Assist Inc. Emergency Home Repair Home Repair  phone 355-7085 Offers a FREE emergency home repair program for owners on low/fixed incomes.  The program provides architectural, structural, roof, plumbing, electrical and mechanical services.  Student volunteers may be willing to render site plan drawings for a nominal fee.

 

Community Action Program  phone 359-2444 Offers financial and budget counseling, mortgage foreclosure intervention, tenant/landlord mediation and information referral services.  The programs listed below are offered FREE of charge to qualified low-income renters and property owners.

 

The Weatherization Assistance Program Provides energy saving repairs with the installation of thermal windows, insulation and other improvements to help lower heating and cooling costs.

 

Housing Outreach Rental Program Offers FREE housing rental services and listings of rental properties to low-income families.

 

Tenant Home Maintenance Project Provides counseling to tenants at risk of eviction due to behavior, i.e. not paying rent, damaging property, poor maintenance skills, family problems.

 

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION OF UTAH phone 994-7222 Provides home ownership opportunities for low-income families to help them become stable members of the community.

 

Community Services Council  phone 978-2452 Offers services to the elderly and disabled, i.e. information and referral, food bank, chore services, minor home repairs, medical (eyeglasses & dentures) and an independent living center.

 

Chore Services Provides snow removal and lawn care for citizens who are incapable of doing the work themselves or cannot afford to hire for such work.

 

      Senior/Handicapped Home Improvement Project Provides minor home maintenance repairs to the elderly and disabled.

 

Graffiti Removal Hotline  phone 972-7885 FREE graffiti clean up.  Call for more information on getting rid of graffiti in your area.

 

Historic Landmark Commission,  phone 535-6260 or 535-7128 Offers assistance to property owners in historic districts with appropriate design standards for both historic and non-historic structures.  For assistance contact Nelson Knight or Elizabeth Giraud.

 

Housing Authority of Salt Lake City  phone 487-2161 A housing assistance program that enables low-income families, senior citizens and the disabled to obtain adequate rental housing while paying no more than 30% of their income for rent.

 

Housing Development Services  phone 535-7228 Offers loans for housing improvements at low interest rates.  Investors, landlords and owner-occupants are eligible for lower than market rate loans.

 

Life Care’s Home Improvement Project  phone 978-2452 Utilizes volunteers to make critical minor home repairs, free of charge to senior citizens and persons with disabilities that qualify.  Services include; the maintenance and/or repair of electrical fixtures, switches and outlets, leaky plumbing fixtures and clogged drains, the seasonal maintenance of furnaces and swamp coolers, interior/exterior painting, installing grab bars, smoke detectors, security door locks, and much more!

Miracle Flights for Kids,  phone 1-800-875-2772 For a full tax deduction donate your car, truck, van, RV, boat or trailer-running or not.  Proceeds help provide urgent flights for kids needing critical medical attention

 

Multi-Cultural Legal Center  phone 486-1183 Provides free legal services to those who cannot afford to hire a private attorney on legal issues that impact Utah’s racial and ethnic communities.  Focus is on discrimination based on race or national origin in housing, employment, and other similar issues, including racial profiling, immigration, and language rights.  MLC also has a project focusing on mediating neighborhood disputes in the boundaries of 2100 South to 600 North and from I-15 to Redwood Road.

 

National Kidney Foundation of Utah,  phone 1-800-869-5277 Offers free towing and a tax deduction for any car, truck or van with four wheels, a motor and a title.  The foundation also accepts motorcycles (with a bill of sale), dune buggies, snowmobiles, motor homes, trailers, and other recycle or resale items.  Donated vehicles are either repaired and sold at auction or dismantled and parted out.  Proceeds benefit the NKFU Patient Services Program.

 

Neighborhood Housing Services  phone 539-1590 NHS offers a rehabilitation program, a Youthworks program and low interest loans to first-time homebuyers in targeted areas.  Current boundaries are approximately from 1000 North to 900 South and from 500 West to the Jordan River.

 

Redevelopment Agency  phone 535-7240 This agency offers long-term loans at below market interest rates for the rehabilitation of businesses and vacant or boarded houses in designated project areas.  Some programs may require matching funds.

 

Salt Lake City Community Action Teams  phone 799-3438 The CAT’s combine various governmental social service and law enforcement agencies to solve complex community crime and nuisance issues at the neighborhood level.  Issues range from quality of life concerns, such as parking and code enforcement, to serious public safety matters including home security, child endangerment, drive-by shootings, gang houses and drug houses.  The focus is on individual and community empowerment through a comprehensive process of community organizing and mobilization assistance.

 

Salt Lake County Aging Services  phone 468-2480 Offers care giver support along with other programs and services to insure that the elderly have the opportunity to remain vital, independent and active members of society.

 

Salt Lake County Health Dept., Environmental Health Division,  phone 313-6733 Offers residents with special needs a cleanup service each Monday.  Non-violent, non-sex offenders from the Oxbow Jail are utilized to remove solid and hazardous waste from public and private property.  Need is determined on an individual basis.  For information contact Mike Montoya.

 

Utah Heritage Foundation  phone 533-0858 This agency offers loans for exterior repairs on historic buildings.  To qualify, the building must be located in a historical district or have historical significance.  Call for more information.

 

Utah Legal Services  phone 328-8891 Renders free legal help to low-income people who cannot afford a private attorney.  In addition, ULS answers legal questions, gives advice, prepares legal documents and represents clients in court.  Utah Legal Services handles tenant/landlord disputes and civil cases.
