Salt Lake City Historic Preservation Plan

Between summer 2007 and spring 2009, Salt Lake City will be creating its first city-wide historic preservation plan. The city has administered a historic preservation program since 1976 but has never had a formal plan to guide the program's development and decision-making.  This plan will establish a city-wide vision for preservation as well as supporting goals, policies, and implementation strategies to guide future historic preservation efforts in the city

The plan documents past preservation accomplishments and lays out a roadmap for historic preservation in the future. Themes that the plan addresses include:

Theme 1 : Foster a citywide commitment to historic preservation,

Theme 2 : Develop a Comprehensive Toolbox,

Theme 3 : Administer a Convenient and Consistent Historic Preservation Program,

Theme 4 : Improve Education and Outreach,

Theme 5 : Support a Sustainable City

Most Recent Documents

On April 1, 2009 the plan was presented to the Historic Landmark Commission (HLC).  The Commission unanimously approved to recommend the plan, with some changes to the Planning Commission and City Council.

The following is the latest draft of each plan and all the changes including the HLC presentation (power point).
