Bike Share Program Debuts Downtown
SALT LAKE CITY – Mayor Ralph Becker will join City Councilman Stan Penfold, the Downtown Alliance and sponsor partners at the official launch of Salt Lake City's new bike share program, GREENbike SLC on Monday, April 8 at 10:30 a.m. at the Main Street entrance to Gallivan Plaza, 250 S. Main Street. (In the event of inclement weather, the event will be moved to the lobby of the Wells Fargo Building, 299 S. Main Street.)

GREENbike will feature 100 easy-to-ride, three-speed bicycles at ten stations around the downtown area, located conveniently near transit nodes and busy Salt Lake City locales. The system allows short-term bicycle rentals for moving in and around the downtown area on cycles that are lighted, outfitted with mud flaps, chain guards and dress guards and a front-mounted basket. The three-tiered rental schedule allows for unlimited trips of 30 minutes or less at $5 for 24-hours, $15 for a week or $75 for an annual membership.

"Bike share adds a convenient, fun and efficient new option for our residents, visitors and downtown commuters to enjoy and get around our downtown area," said Mayor Becker. "It also represents a fantastic example of a public/private partnership model, connecting City government with non-profit advocacy groups like Downtown Alliance and local private corporations to achieve funding goals. I look forward to this being the first step in a system that has the potential to grow not just citywide, but throughout the region."
