City to Celebrate MLK Day with Service Project
SALT LAKE CITY – Salt Lake City will celebrate this year’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service at the Utah Food Bank, 3150 South 900 West in Salt Lake City.

Now in its 12th year, the Salt Lake City Mayor’s Office and YouthCity are proud to continue the tradition of partnering with the Utah Food Bank to celebrate the MLK Day holiday. Volunteers will be joined by Salt Lake City Council members Carlton Christensen and Kyle LaMalfa and Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams, and their families.

Over 150 volunteers will participate in this and other MLK Day projects, helping to sort and package food for distribution by the Utah Food Bank.  Last fiscal year, Utah Food Bank distributed 34.4 million pounds of food and goods, the equivalent of over 28 million meals for families and individuals in need. Utah Food Bank also served 181, 579 Kids Café meals, delivered 43,740 food boxes and filled 43,033 kids’ backpacks for weekends and school holidays. A statewide network of 129 emergency food pantries and agencies is supported by volunteer efforts at the Utah Food Bank.

“Dr. King famously said that ‘everybody can be great, because anybody can serve.’  We are grateful to the community members who make time for service on this holiday,” said Savannah Wake, Salt Lake City’s Volunteer Coordinator.
