On Tuesday, February 23, 2010, Council Members Christensen and Martin met with Mayor Xie Zhengyi along with nine members of a trade delegation from Yangzhou, China, who are making stops in Salt Lake City, New York City and Washington, D.C. The Mayor has become close friends with our former Governor and U.S. Ambassador to China, Jon Huntsman Jr. The delegation came to Salt Lake specifically because of the Mayor's relationship with Ambassador Huntsman, to begin the first steps in establishing a sister city relationship. They also came to build an economic relationship between Yangzhou, China and Salt Lake City which share many economic opportunities through high end biotech, petrochemical, automobile, and new energy industries. We are reaching for economic development through establishing relationships throughout the world for Salt Lake City.
