Cleanup Pile Instructions

Place piles street side no sooner than ten days before your scheduled cleanup date. Do not block traffic, fire hydrants, sidewalks, and mailboxes.

Pile size must be no larger than 20 ft. long X 5 ft. wide X 5 ft. high. The city will only collect one dump truck load of material.

Separate green waste materials such as small branches, thorn less shrubs, lawn, and other organic plant material from your other cleanup pile.

Refrigerators/freezers must be tagged by a professional showing the freon has been removed. Doors must be removed or firmly secured shut.

Enforcement - Failure to follow these instructions is a violation of city and county ordinance. Please call Salt Lake Valley Health Department at 801-313-6641 regarding illegal piles.

Items We Will Not Remove

Construction material

Concrete, asphalt, and roofing material will no longer be accepted. This material is very expensive to collect and can damage your curb and gutter, the street, and city vehicles. You should take this material to the landfill at 6030 W. 1300 South.

There has also been a problem with contractors dumping material into neighborhood cleanup piles. If you see this taking place, please write down the contractor's company name, date, time, address of illegal dumping, and type of material being dumped and report it to The Salt Lake Valley Health Department 801-313-6641.  Contractors are responsible for removing their own material. This includes yard waste, construction, or any other thing a contractor should be removing from your home. Make sure that you agree to that before you sign a contract.

Stumps and branches wider than 6 in. diameter or longer than 6 ft.

Tires or household hazardous waste such as paints, pesticides, oil, florescent lights, batteries, and other chemicals. For information on how to dispose of these items call 801-974-6902.

Flammable or explosive material such as aerosol cans, gas cans, propane tanks, etc. Call your local fire station for disposal information on how to dispose of them.

Recycling Usable Items

Recycle usable items as much as possible. Charitable organizations (Deseret Industries, Salvation Army, etc.) will accept old appliances and furniture. For information on unusual recyclable items call 801-974-6902.

Illegal Dumping
