Salt Lake City Seeks Feedback on Sales Tax and Bond Proposal

Mayor Biskupski and the Salt Lake City Council are seeking resident feedback to better understand public perceptions of City service needs and potential funding mechanisms. The Mayor and City Council are currently exploring the possibility of activating a 0.5% sales tax option provided to the City in 2015. The ongoing funding could be used to help fund growth related priority areas of street repair, affordable housing, transit service, and neighborhood safety and security.

Mayor Jackie Biskupski issues statement regarding Governor Herbert signing the Inland Port Authority Bill

“Although we are disappointed Governor Herbert signed SB234, we appreciate his willingness to call a special session this spring and provide a framework to address our four main issues with the bill: making sure the land use appeals follow state law and city codes; ensuring the port authority is limited to two percent of the tax increment for furthering the objectives of the inland port; reducing the size of the area covered under the bill; and having a board that equitably represents Salt Lake City’s interests.

Mayor Biskupski to work with Governor Herbert to create a true partnership with the State on the Inland Port Authority

Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski announced an effort with Utah Governor Gary Herbert to broker a fair partnership for Salt Lake City in relation to SB234, the Utah Inland Port Authority bill. Governor Herbert reached out to Mayor Biskupski Monday morning and expressed interest in reaching an agreed-upon approach to the Inland Port Authority.

“Governor Herbert’s call is a positive development,” said Mayor Jackie Biskupski. “The City is eager to create a path forward and return to working with the State in good faith.”

Salt Lake City supports clean air by removing fees at electric vehicle charging stations

Salt Lake City has removed all user fees for its public EV charging stations. The change came after the Salt Lake City Council adopted a resolution on February 6 in response to a proposal from Mayor Biskupski to eliminate fees for its public Level 2 charging infrastructure.

Mayor Biskupski chooses experienced litigator and community leader for Justice Court judgeship

Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski has selected Clemens Landau as her nominee for the Justice Court vacancy. Landau was chosen by the Mayor, from a pool of five strong candidates, for his abilities as an attorney but also for helping those who have been disenfranchised.

“Clemens Landau has a mind for the law but a heart for the community,” said Mayor Biskupski. “I was impressed with his legal knowledge and compassion. So many people see he ‘walks the walk and talks the talk’ in his personal and professional life.”

Today, Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski joined more than 200 mayors from across the United States to express her support for the Clean Power Plan (CPP) – an essential public health protection and climate change solution that sets the first ever federal limits on carbon pollution from power plants and helps cities transition to a clean energy economy. The Trump Administration is trying to repeal the CPP in spite of support from mayors, state leaders and state businesses.   

Arts for All program to provide FREE show experiences at the George S. & Dolores Dore Eccles Theater

Arts for All, a new program launched today, provides eligible Salt Lake City and County residents free tickets to select performances at the Eccles Theater. The program starts in February with The Sound of Music

Mayor Biskupski outlines successes and growth opportunities in 2018 State of the City Address

Tonight Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski cast her vision for the next two years in her State of the City address at the Horizonte Instruction and Training Center. The speech highlighted the progress made over the past two years and outlined opportunities to improve infrastructure, public transit, affordable housing, public safety and air quality.

“The state of the City is strong,” said Biskupski. “In Salt Lake City we have a rare opportunity to create a transformational shift in how we address growth.”
