Mayor Jackie Biskupski and Police Chief Mike Brown honor police officers and civilians at 36th Annual Police Awards ceremony

Today, May 17, 2016, Mayor Jackie Biskupski and Police Chief Mike Brown honored 26 Salt Lake City police officers and civilians for acts of bravery, sacrifice, and civic engagement during the 36th Annual Police Awards luncheon at the City Creek Marriott in Salt Lake City.
The SLCPD present the awards yearly in conjunction with National Police Week, which this year runs from May 15-21. The Rotary Club of Salt Lake City co-sponsored the event.

Salt Lake City launches program to double its amount of municipal solar power

Today, May 10, 2016, Mayor Jackie Biskupski, flanked by Rocky Mountain Power CEO Cindy Crane, launched a new initiative to double Salt Lake City’s current use of clean solar power.

Salt Lake City Finance Director Gina Chamness to become Holladay City Manager

Today, Mayor Jackie Biskupski and Holladay City Mayor Rob Dahle jointly announced that Finance Director Gina Chamness will be leaving her Salt Lake City post to become the Holladay city manager.
“It’s been my pleasure to work with Gina on financial policy, including my recommended FY17 budget. She has given years of professional and dedicated service to Salt Lake City residents, department heads, and elected leaders,” Mayor Biskupski said. “We wish her all the best as she takes this major step forward in her public service career.”

Salt Lake City makes major commitment to solar power

Mayor Jackie Biskupski will be joined by Rocky Mountain Power CEO Cindy Crane to announce a new initiative to increase Salt Lake City’s use of clean solar power.

Salt Lake City’s commitment to the new initiative, Subscriber Solar, will nearly double the amount of sustainable energy powering government operations by the end of 2016. Mayor Biskupski has set a 2020 goal to have 50% of municipal operations powered by renewable energy, and 100% by 2032.

Customer service, efficiency help Salt Lake City win Utah’s 2016 Justice Court of the Year Award

Salt Lake City’s Justice Court has been named 2016 Justice Court of the Year by the Utah State Courts. The award is based on results of questionnaires administered to the public and to court employees, and measures customer service, efficiency in disposition of cases, jury movement, and employee performance.

Arbor Day celebrations to include tree plantings by Mayor Biskupski and a school observance

On Friday, April 29, Mayor Jackie Biskupski and her family will plant a tree at Westpointe Park to celebrate Arbor Day and the power of community and volunteerism.


Salt Lake City’s Urban Forestry Program has been working with non-profit organization Tree Utah, as well the Westpointe Community Council on the event. Dozens of volunteers will be on site to help plant 35 trees throughout the park.


Update on Salt Lake City appointment process and appointment of Chief of Police

Today Mayor Jackie Biskupski announced she would appoint Interim Police Chief Mike Brown as Chief of Police for the Salt Lake City Police Department. Chief Mike Brown has been serving as Interim Police Chief since June 2015 and has served with the Salt Lake City Police Department since 1991.
