Mayor Becker's Budget Presentation

Mayor Ralph Becker presented his proposed Fiscal Year 2014-15 budget to the Council, which included employee compensation increases, replacing the city's 2-stroke engines over the next two years, and consolidating fire stations on the west side of Salt Lake City. The Council will discuss the Mayor's proposed budget in the coming weeks and will hold public hearings on May 20 and June 3 before taking action later in June. Read the Mayor's full speech.

Street Lighting

The Council was briefed on the City's street light program, including an overview of lighting options, repair schedules and plans for upgrading the City's street lights to high-efficiency lighting within 10 years. New Utility Line Warranty Program

The Council was briefed on a new water and sewer warranty program that will soon be available to residents. The opt-in warranty program will provide coverage, for a fee, to residential Public Utility customers. The coverage will help customers with major expenses associated with replacing and repairing sewer and water lines. The Council adopted a joint resolution in support of the Utah State Fairpark with Mayor Ralph Becker.

9 Line Corridor Master Plan Draft Review

The Council was briefed on the draft plan, which creates a framework for future development of the 9 Line Trail and property along the corridor. The conversation centered on maintenance and implementation of the plan. The project area consists of the east/west corridor from 900 South and Hayes Avenue between 200 West to the Surplus Canal (approximately 1915 West) including the 9 Line Trail and a section of the Jordan River Parkway.
